COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR PROPELLER DESIGN AND EXAMPLES OF APPLICATION

Due to the recent emergence of new hull forms such as large full tankers, high speed container ships and so on, having widely differing wake distribution each, the effect of the latter on the performance of a propeller has become a matter for serious consideration. In order to cope with this situation, the authors have developed a simulation program to predict propeller performance under conditions of uniform and nonuniform wake flow using the vortex theory. This program is connected to another computer program used for propeller design and speed-power calculation, permitting instantaneous examination of propeller cavitation, bearing forces and blade stress, etc. when the power estimation is carried out. An outline of this program is presented together with some examples of its application.
