ACTIVITY SCHEDULING MODEL FOR GENERATING FEASIBLE TRAVEL CHOICE SETS
Of the various factors which go to limit the size of travel choice sets, this paper concentrates on the limits imposed by constraints--both "hard" (imposed by the environment) and "soft" (imposed by human behavior). Evidence is presented to support the view that such constraints are best incorporated into models by considering individuals' schedules of activities over the course of time. Further, the choices open to an an individual when faced with an external stimulus are presented in the context of a need to reschedule a set of activities subject to the above-mentioned constraints. A choice-set generation model based on such approaches has been developed and is described here, along with suggestions as to its further development.
