Learning and Earning in This New Economy: A Study of Rideshare Drivers in Los Angeles

This thesis focuses on the lives of rideshare drivers in Los Angeles, California. The author's analysis is based on interviews with drivers, driver financial diaries, and a few weeks of driving for both Uber and Lyft. Topics discussed include: why people drive for rideshare companies; rider demand, driver supply, and driver incentives; income and expenses; social situations and family; physical and mental health; and long-term goals.
