For contactless drives, specifically in new transportation systems, linear motors offer essential advantages. Existing and planned test facilities use aluminum reaction rails since they meet the requirements, are non-magnetic, and show corrosion resistance and variability of electric conductivity over a wide range. Factors in the arrangement of reaction rails and properties of aluminum alloys to be considered and manufacturing methods of reaction rails are discussed.
