SOME CONSIDERATIONS IN THE DESIGN OF POLAR ICEBREAKERS
In this paper, an attempt is made to highlight the primary considerations fundamental to the design of modern polar icebreakers, i.e. the operating theater of the icebreaker and the expected season of effectiveness within that theater. The specific aspects of the design covered, are: the factors affecting power determination; hull construction; and propulsion machinery.
