PROTECTIVE SYSTEM FOR THREE-PHASE PROPELLER-SHAFT GENERATORS ON OCEAN-GOING SHIPS
SCHUTZMASSNAHMEN BEI DREHSTROM-WELLENGENERATORANLAGEN MIT STATISCHEM UMFORMER FUER HOCHSEESCHIFFE
The authors describe the protective measures used for three-phase propeller-shaft generators on ocean-going ships. The power electronics are protected against excessive currents and voltages, a differential protection scheme monitors the converter equipment for internal short-circuits, and a short-circuit protection prevents the propeller-shaft generator from breaking down or being overloaded during short-circuits, which must be cleared selectively. The article also explains how faulty conditions are handled to reduce interruptions in the shipboard supply system to an absolute minimum.
