DICTIONARY OF PETROLOGY

This dictionary encompasses the terminology of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous petrology and includes synoptic tables in which associated terms are grouped together so that it may be used as a thesaurus. The classification of terms by subject area in the synoptic tables will enable the reader to correlate similar and synonymous terms, and to understand their different connotations. In the alphabetical listing, words are given a historical and philosophical background, a first or early reference is provided and changes in definition or usage with time are indicated, which should be of interest to teachers and researchers in geology.
