Sprocket with asymmetric teeth for roller chain drives of vehicles

The analysis of results of experimental research of vehicle roller chain drives equipped with sprockets with symmetric teeth is presented in first part of this article. It is proved, that sprocket tooth profile influences significantly the distribution of the payload between the chain hinges and the sprocket teeth. It is suggested that sprockets with asymmetric teeth provide a more rational payload distribution between the chain and the sprocket. The second part of the article contains a description of the methodology for determining the optimal angles of sharpening of the asymmetric sprocket tooth profiles for roller chain drives. The preliminary results of experimental studies of the operability of chain drives equipped with sprockets with asymmetric teeth are also presented.
