MIDSHIP HULL INFORMATION SYSTEMS

This paper presents a brief description of Midship Hull Information System (MHIS) which is an initial design system for the midship construction of ordinary oil carriers. Employing a computer IBM 360/651, this system performs a set of jobs including the calculation of scantlings in accordance to the Classification Societies' Rules, the calculation of the wet weight of steel required for a hull structure and the weight of each erection block, the calculation of stresses and deflections on primary supporting members, drawing of midship sections and planning of transverse oiltight bulkheads by a plotter EAI 3500. Time required for a trial design of a typical ship can be reduced to about 80 hours by using this system.
