Mixed Traffic Flow Model Considering Curb Parking

This article mainly studies the operation characteristics of mixed traffic flow in the area effected by curb parking. Considering composition proportion of the mixed traffic flow, lane width and space occupancy of motor and nonmotor vehicles, a new cellular automaton model is established, in order to reveal the impact on mixed traffic flow caused by curb parking through a series of simulations. The simulation results were analyzed by taking the frequency of nonmotorized vehicles entering the motorway and the flow and velocity of motorized and nonmotorized vehicles as evaluation indexes. The results show that: (1) the model can accurately describe the actual operation of mixed traffic flow; (2) curb parking reduces the efficiency of traffic operation, and as the road narrows, the operation efficiency decreases; and (3) as the mixing degree of the nonmotorized vehicles increases, the operation efficiency in the area of curb parking decreases.
