Study on the Highway Bridge Expansion Joints with the Advantage of Damping and Noise Reduction Based on Preventive Maintenance
A new type of bridge expansion joints with the advantage of damping and noise reduction is presented, and finite element analysis and a field test are performed. Studies show that: (1) both strength and stiffness of the new type of expansion joints can meet the requirements; (2) when the front and rear wheels of test vehicle pass the new type of expansion joints at the speed of 20 km/h, the acceleration amplitudes of vertical vibration of the vehicle are 28% and 25% of the conventional ones; when at the speed of 40 km/h, they are 57% and 30% of the conventional ones; and (3) when the test vehicle passes the new type of expansion joints at the speed of 20 km/h, 40 km/h, and 60 km/h, the noise produced by the new type of expansion joints is lower than the conventional ones by 4.2 dB, 5.4 dB, and 2.6 dB.
