SEA SULKY

The design of a semisubmerged displacement craft with high cargo capacity combined with an extremely short waterline is presented. The construction consists of a removable platform, connecting struts, and two pontoons. Each pontoon carries a propulsion unit, fuel and trim tanks, and stabilizer equipment for draft control. The main idea behind the design is to decrease wave resistance from the deck and the pontoons, and this is achieved by raising the deck (platform) above sea level and keeping the pontoons submerged, with only the four connecting beams incurring some wave resistance. Advantages of this design over conventional ships are discussed, with reference to both speed and cost.
