NEW PERSIAN GULF TERMINAL
An offshore floating marine terminal costing about $1 million and capable of accommodating 250,000 dwt tankers will be installed early in 1970 for the Societe Irano-Italienne des Petroles, 20 mi off Iman Hazan, Iran. It will be able to load tankers at a rate of 55,000 bbl/hr through its double 20 in. dia loading lines. It will be operational in winds up to 50 knots, in 10 ft tides, with wave heights to 26 feet, and with water currents of 1.5 knots. The IMODCO mooring will be installed by IMODCO Europe, a joint venture with Ateliers et Chantiers de la Rochele Pallice, a European shipbuilding firm. The IMODCO mooring obviates the need for enormous investments in dock and wharf complexes; it can accommodate the deepest-draft tankers, and, if desired, can readily be moved to an alternative location.
