TANKER TERMINAL COMPLETED IN FOUR MONTHS

The terminal, which will serve the expanding Empresa Nacional del Petroleo (Chile) refinery (now 54,000 bbl/day) at Concon, consists of a monobuoy mooring, a 9000 ft long, 42 in. dia submarine line, and a ten-tank storage farm. The mooring will be used for the first time on 10/5/71; it is 9000 ft offshore in 150 ft of water; the capacity of the connecting line will allow a 200,000 dwt tanker to turn around in less than one day. The buoy is connected to the manifold at the seaward end of the submarine line by two flexible 24 in. dia lines. Two other flexible 20 in. dia lines connect a tanker with the buoy. The tankers' pumps will supply the power for unloading. M.W. Kellogg & Co. was the contractor. Some details of the installation work and pipeline construction are given.
