MOBIL TURNING NIGERIAN JUNGLE INTO TERMINAL

Mobil Producing Nigeria is building a $60 million, 300 acre oil terminal where crude oil will he stored in 500,000 bbl tanks, at the mouth of the Qua Iboe River; completion is scheduled for 1972. It will be served by a 24 in. dia submarine pipeline that will carry crude oil from five offshore fields. A 24 mi long, 42 in. dia submarine pipeline under construction by Mobil Pipeline Co. will move crude oil from the terminal to two offshore tanker loading facilities. One is a single-buoy tanker berth 24 mi offshore in 85 ft of water, capable of accommodating tankers up to 225,000 dwt at up to 60,000 bbl/hr; the other facility will be a seven-point conventional mooring 12 mi from shore in 60 ft of water, capable of serving tankers up to 80,000 dwt at up to 28,000 bbl/hr. Two turbine-driven generators now under construction will produce 13,500 kw of electric power for the terminal. Other facilities, including water and gas separators and centrifugal pumps to boost the treated crude through the meters to the loading berths, are described briefly.
