MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

As a road maintenance management system becomes operational so it is possible for maintenance personnel to plan and schedule work and to allocate resources so that performance budgets and fund allocations can be directly related to work activities. In this way performance can be related to work accomplished and not just to funds expended. In addition, methods and procedures can be constantly improved and training needs more clearly defined. Service levels, performance standards and methods must be subject to continuous observation and revised according to changing conditions. By this means maximum utilisation can be made of available resources while achieving desired levels of service at the lowest practical cost. (TRRL)
