ANALYSIS OF REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE COSTS FOR LOG VEHICLES

The level of knowledge of vehicle operating costs and how they vary with haulage task, road conditions and time is fairly limited. One important component of vehicle operating costs is the repair and maintenance costs of the vehicle. The repairs and maintenance (r&m) costs of a sample of log vehicles operating in the north west of tasmania were measured over a period of twelve months. Multiple linear regression models were calibrated relating maintenance costs to a range of independent variables. These independent variables included haulage task, road condition/ type and truck and driver characteristics. The results presented are preliminary and cover only forrty-four weeks of the year's results. Discussion of future study developments is presented together with a number of the problems encountered in the conduct of this study. (Author/TRRL)
