MOBILITY AND INDIVIDUAL TRANSPORT IN THE NINETIES

MOBILITAET UND INDIVIDUAL VERKEHR IN DEN NEUNZIGER JAHREN

This report describes the results of a scenario study on mobility and the extent of individual transport in the Federal Republic of Germany for the period 1980 to 2000. The scenario was conceived within the context of the announcement of a project "research vehicle" on behalf of the Federal German Ministry for Research and Technology. The aim of the project is to describe the economic and societal boundary conditions within which individual transport could develop in the coming decades. The results of this study are compared with recent forecasts which take the changes in the total economy since 1978 into consideration. The upper limit of the developments described in the scenario agrees to a large extent with the developments forecast today as the most probable. Thus conclusions drawn concerning the requirements on the technology of the passenger car of the nineties will continue to be valid. (Author/TRRL)
