SINGLE BUOY MOORINGS

Single buoy moorings use either the continuously floating hose system or the float-sink system in which the hose is sunk and remains on the sea bed during those periods when no tanker is at the terminal. The latter system requires internal machinery in the terminal buoy with which to raise the hose system prior to the arrival of a tanker. The general design of the single buoy mooring system is discussed, including the number of anchor chains, usually from four to eight, and the method of anchoring the chains to the sea bed.
