MANAGING THE BUOYS
A discussion of factors in the operation and maintenance of single buoy mooring terminals covers the world-wide distribution of SBM's and the varying problems of locations from the Arctic to the Middle East; effects of wind, wave, and current in hampering the mooring of tankers (requiring very rapid loading or unloading to make up the time lost); maintenance requirements; the development of an SBM terminal work boat by Lamnalco Ltd., the "Lamnalco Kingfisher", whose main features include a through main deck for hose work, 'A' frames, multiple winches, diving gear, compressors, decompression chambers, and plenty of storage space; operating requirements for staff, work boat, mooring launches, crew boat, and a general transportation boat; special needs of individual terminals in isolated locations; and a tabulation of SBM installations around the world including year of installation, country, locations, owner, and the size of tankers accommodated.
