LOOP PIPE LINE SYSTEM TO SERVE GULF COAST SUPERPORT
Activities under way in Louisiana toward construction of an offshore superport oil terminal by LOOP Inc. (Louisiana Offshore Oil Port Inc.), formed by thirteen participating oil companies, involve a comprehensive ecology study of the onshore area of the proposed superport by Louisiana State University and of the offshore area by Nicholls State University. A tentative outline of the facilities includes a complex of mooring platforms around a pumping platform 21 miles at sea off the Louisiana coast in 110 ft of water. Oil will be pumped ashore through 48 in. buried pipelines to a tank farm on a 1600 acre tract near the mouth of Bayou Lafourche. The scope of problems to be overcome is discussed.
