MODELLING REGIONAL ENERGY-USE: A LAND-USE, TRANSPORT, AND ENERGY-EVALUATION MODEL

A mathematical model is described that may be used to compare and evaluate pairs of regional settlement patterns from the point of view of their use of energy. The model is specifically designed for the comparison of a range of hypothetical energy-efficient regional configurations with an empirically derived base case, each configuration being defined by a minimal data set. The model consists of an integrated land-use and transport model coupled to a user-benefits evaluation procedure which processes the output from two separate runs of the land-use and transport model.
