REACHING LEGISLATORS
Citing some of the experiences of local chapters, state societies, and the national NSPE (National Society of Professional Engineers) office, this article provides suggestions on how engineers can communicate with their legislators. For example, the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers is seeking to expand its network of members, often called Minutemen, who are willing to contact legislators. A growing number of NSPE state societies have established political action committees (PACs). Also, a number of chapters have established technical advisory groups, panels of engineers formed to provide legislators with needed technical information on critical public policy issues.
