ARAMCO READIES NEW PORT AT JU' AYMAH, SAUDI ARABIA

Arabian American Oil Co.'s new terminal will be able to accommodate fully loaded, mammoth, deep-draft tankers; loading rates will be up to 140,000 bbl/hr. The new port will be built in increments; the initial stage, intended for loading Arabian lightgrade crude oil, will be completed in the fall of 1974. This phase calls for a offshore control and metering platform, 37,000 ft from the shore, and two single-buoy mooring (SBM) berths linked to it by 11,000 and 8000 ft long underwater pipelines. The berths will accommodate ships of up to 90-95 ft draft. The platform will be linked with storage on land by a 56 in. dia crude-oil loading line and a 24 in. dia bunkering line; the SBM berths will be linked with the platform by two 48 in. and two 42 in. dia oil lines and one 18 in. and one 16 in. iea bunkering line. Onshore installations will include shipping pumps, three 1-25 million bbl crude oil storage tanks, and a 250,000 bbl bunker tank.
