ADVANTAGES OF SINGLE POINT MOORING TOWERS
Advantages of Single Point Mooring Towers, which comprise a a fixed steel structure rigidly connected to the pipeline from shore, include design for a potential life of 50 years and location of valves on the tower above water where they can, if desired, be controlled remotely by radio. The tower can hold a tanker moored in fairly severe weather, and it is anticipated that in the future the system will be improved by the use of a submerged loading arm. With floating hoses the loading and unloading operations are limited by disconnecting conditions when the wave height rises 10-12 ft. For practical purposes, the operating limits of the towers are 8-10 ft wave height as set by the need for launch assistance for mooring and hose hookup and disconnection.
