OFFSHORE MOORING FENDERS FOR ULCCS (ULTRA LARGE CRUDE CARRIERS
The Bridgestone Tire Co. has developed dock fenders capable of meeting the requirements of crude carrier approaching 500,000 dwt such as "Globtik Tokyo" and "Globtik London", or of future tankers as large as 1 million dwt. The first C3000H fenders are for use at the offshore facilitity of Idemitsu Kosan Oil Co. on Hokkaido, where two sets of three cells each will be installed. Each cell has a face diameter of 3.5 m and is 3 m deep; it weighs 18 tons, and after assembly in a frame the total weight is 24 tons/cell. Each cell contains about 2000 times as much rubber as is used in the production of a single automobile tire. Further sets of similar fenders are on order for Brazil.
