GRAVEL ROADS SURFACED WITH Y1G. FOLLOW-UP STUDIES 1978-80

A follow-up study of a surface-dressed gravel road is presented in this report. The study includes 19 gravel road stretches surface dressed with Y1G and 11 control stretches. Spot speed and friction measurements have been made at the end points of each stretch while the journey time for journey speed calculations and evenness measurements have been carried out over the whole stretch. The results are in accordance with those from the mid-seventies. When limited to material from 1978-1980, the average speed increases with 1.6-5.2 km/h (95 percent confidence). By combining this material with that from 1976-1977 the range was 1.6-4.3 km/h. (TRRL)
