TRANSPORT OF SOLIDS AT LOW CONCENTRATION IN HORIZONTAL PIPES
Experiments were performed in 1 in. and 6 in. transparent pipes with water, kerosine, and a transparent simulated crude oil carrying low concentrations of sand. After a steady-state deposit level was attained, flanged sections of the pipe were opened, and the deposit depth measured. The data were correlated by a mathematical model developed by deriving expressions for the lift and drag forces and the net gravity force acting on sand particles at the surface of the bed.
