TDA-RCA CAPSULE PIPELINE PROJECT. PHASE 1 REPORT. PART 1
A computer program to calculate capsule velocity and annular liquid velocity based on pipe diameter, liquid viscosity and density, capsule diameter, eccentricity, and capsule pressure gradient, gives agreement between predicted and measured Reynolds numbers within 10% for constant friction factor and capsule velocity. Heavy capsules at low velocities and light capsules at high velocities show no agreement, but these cases probably violate the basic assumptions of the theory, which was developed by Garg and Round. The primary purposes of the three-year project, launched 1/1/71, are to analyze the hydrodynamics of capsule pipelining and to produce reliable design equations based on experimental results obtained in pipelines of varying diameters.
