PIPELINE ANCHORING--AN ART NOT FOR AMATEURS
A survey of pipeline anchoring methods covers a general outline of the steps necessary to design an efficient and economical anchoring system; the purpose of pipeline anchoring; the use of concrete coatings; coating the joints; bolt-on anchors; set-on weights; mechanical anchors; anchoring of marine lines; determining the required amount of negative buoyancy and depth of burial, if any; designing anchorages for pipeline river crossings and for swamp pipelines; analyzing soil properties; determining the spacing of weights or mechanical anchors; and the use of flooding to sink the pipeline when necessary.
