A HYBRID METHOD FOR ANALYSIS OF NON-SIMPLY SUPPORTED THICK RECTANGULAR PLATES

This paper presents a solution to the problem of rectangular thick plates with two simply supported opposite edges and two edges under various conditions. The solution proposed is in two parts: (1) solution derived from the generalized Galerkin vector and Boussinecq's function in three-dimensional elasticity to determine accurately distribution of stresses and displacements for all simply supported plates, and (2) complementary solution derived from the extended Reissner's theory to meet the prescribed boundary conditions. Double series solutions consisting of trigonometric and hyperbolic functions for the above mentioned plates subjected to partially distributed and normal and tangential loads are presented. The numerical results obtained with such solutions are compared to those obtained by the thin plate theory for various loadings, boundary conditions and thickness side ratios. (TRRL)
