INSULATED UNDERWATER LINE LAID FOR IIAPCO (INDEPENDENT INDONESIAN AMERICAN PETROLEUM CO.), IN JAVA SEA

Crude oil with a pour point of 115 F is pumped through an insulated 18 in. pipe system in 115-130 ft of water linking the Zelda, Nora, and Cinta offshore oilfields in the Java Sea. The Zelda-Cinta line will operate at 1000 psi with flow rates from 35,000 to 150,000 bbl/day, with oil entering the line at 190 F at the Zelda platform and reaching Cinta at 140 F or higher. In the event that the line drops below safe operating temperature limits, hot salt water will automatically be circulated to displace the oil. The lines are insulated with rigid polyurethane foam that is protected by a steel jacket plus protective coating and a weighted Coating. Minimum overbend and underbend radius was 1100 ft, and curves laid in the lines had a minimum radius of 5000 ft. Despite high winds and seas, the installation was made by P.T. McDermott Indonesia without damage to either coating or insulation. Price International prepared the piping system and applied the various coatings at its Singapore yard. Insulating methods and pipeline construction are described.
