TRANSPORT PIPE LINES WITH INFLATABLE FLOTATION BAGS
Buoyancy for floating pipelines across stretches of water can be provided by flotation bags developed by Avon Rubber Co. Ltd., Llanelli, Wales, in two standard sizes for 5000 and 2500 pounds buoyancy. The bages are fabricated from tough nylon fabric coated with Hypalon synthetic rubber compound, with a Terylene net constructed to cover the exact form of the bag, so that the weight of the pipeline is distributed over the largest possible area when inflated. The bags can be inflated through long hose connections having the free ends attached to buoys, so that pipelines may be raised or lowered. Bags are recoverable and reusable, and punctures are easily repaired.
