Aquitaine Co. of Canada Ltd. is experimenting with an 8 in. insulated test pipeline loop to determine the feasibility of moving liquid sulfur over long distances such as to the West Coast. The facility incorporates multiple insulation and a skin-effect electric-cable heating system. The test program includes operations at varying sulfur flow rates; evaluating the insulation for heat loss, thermal expansion, and power requirements; creating experimental freeze-ups and melting them down; and evaluating construction methods to determine how best to set up a commercial project for bidding by contractors. There would be benefit in being able to use such a system just within a single plant area.
