HIGH LEVEL PLATFORMS AND SPECIALLY DESIGNED BUSES. EVALUATION
MIVAAHAALLPLATSER I HALMSTAD. UTVAERDERING AV ETT BUSSYSTEM MED NIVAAHAALLPLATSER
The aim of this report is to evaluate a test of high level platforms and specially designed buses. The platforms are at the same level as the inner floor of the buses. When the bus stops at the platform a gangboard is extended allowing passengers to enter the bus on level. When the bus stops at an ordinary bus stop an extra step is extended and passengers enter as on ordinary buses. 1061 passengers were interviewed on the buses. The interviews dealt with travel behaviour, opinions on platforms, buses, embarking and disembarking. The bus drivers were also asked their opinion. Experimental studies where persons with declining vision and/or mobility participated were also carried out. Results show that high level platforms simplify embarking and disembarking. A majority of the drivers agreed with the installation of the platforms.
