3D-CFD simulations of pool-fires, comparison with experimental data
In 2016 the Institute of Internal Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics at Graz University of Technology carried out full scale fire tests at Koralmtunnel (33km railway tunnel) in Austria. The field tests ranged from heat release rates of 4 to 21 MW. Based on these experiments 3D-CFD simulations of representative fire-tests have been performed employing Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and Smokeview. The current poster contains the results of the CFD calculations with focus on thermal profiles and backlayering length. Thus, it is possible to validate the CFD results against the measured data.
