REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW TECHNOLOGY IN OFFSHORE PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION
Requirements for new technology in offshore pipeline construction are needed to cope with rough deep water as offshore exploration moves into deeper waters and more severe environments. To satisfy anticipated requirements, lay-barge construction techniques may need to incorporate improved pipe-joining methods, barges with batter motion characteristics, improved barge-mooring or positioning systems, shortened (or eliminated) stingers, greater tensioning ability, inclined ramps, more efficient pipe transfer and handling methods, and faster weather disruption procedures.
