PIPELINE WARNING SYSTEM DETECTS RUPTURES IN SECONDS
A new dynamic pipeline-failure warning system developed in Germany by Erdoel-Raffinerie Mannheim G.m.b.h. (ERM). an affiliate of Marathon Oil Co., is available for licensing, but as yet no installations are planned for North America. Marathon Pipe Line Co. has other surveillance methods already in use that are safisfactory for safe pipeline operation; the ERM system was developed to satisfy a particular set of requirements by the German local authorities. According to Proprietary Rights Service Corp., which has the ERM process available for licensing, the ERM system is considerably less expensive than other systems. The new system is described briefly.
