PHOTOELASTIC DETERMINATION OF STRESS INTENSITY FACTORS - AWRA CONTRACT 53
This report deals with the use of the photoelastic method for determination of stress intensity factors. The method, and means of analysis, showed that good results could be achieved for two dimensional models with central cracks at various angles of orientation to the loading axis. The modelling of a pressure vessel with cracks is also described and the results of a test presented. Unfortunately the crack orientation was such that no stress intensification was detected. This observation was consistent with crack growth studies on the stream receiver project. (Author/TRRL)
