LOW-TEMPERATURE PIPELINE SYSTEMS FOR LIQUID NATURAL GAS

The development and installation since 1962 of piping at Canvey Island, U.K., for unloading LNG from tankers into storage tanks required basic development of aluminum pipe, gaskets, welding methods, expansion joints, insulation, and valves. Piping diagrams show the anchors, articulated or hinged bellows units for expansion, and loop and dogleg pipe arrangements used to make a complete piping system. For long-distance LNG transmission pipeline, vacuum-type insulation will be justified to limit the numbers of intermediate cooling and pumping stations.
