INDONESIA AWARDS CONTRACTS FOR 3-LAYER, SUBSEA OIL LINE
The Indonesian state-owned oil company, Pertamina P.N., awarded contracts to five Japanese contractors for constructuion of an offshore, triple-layer crude oil pipeline at Djatibarang, 125 miles east of Djakarta. The pipeline, extending about eight miles offshore to a tanker loading buoy, will comprise a 40 in. outer pipe containing a 36 in. crude oil line with glass fiber insulation between the pipes and a 6 in. internal line in which hot liquid will be circulated to keep the oil warm enough for free flow. The crude oil has a high wax content and will solidify at normal water temperatures. A separate 24 in. pipeline will remove oil-contaminated water from tankers loading at the buoy. The contractors include Marubeni-Iida, Mitsui & Co., Far East Oil Trading Co. Ltd., Nippon Steel Corp., and Niigata Engineering Co.
