MCDERMOTT INTRODUCES A NEW BREED OF PIPE-LAYING BARGE
J. Ray McDermott and Co. Inc. has designed and constructed the world's largest barge strictly designed for laying offshore pipeline. The work line on which the pipeline is assembled is on the longitudinal center-line of the barge and is capable of being totally enclosed during inclement weather. The center slote barge is more readily able to sustain operation in sea states of 35 to 40 mph winds and 10 to 12 ft seas. A 12 point mooring system allows each anchor line to be controlled through specifically developed winches which spool 5100 ft of two-inch wire cable on each drum.
