INSTALLING REFLECTIVE MARKERS WITHOUT DAMAGING ROAD PAVEMENT
This article discusses the problem of developing a system to prepare concrete and asphalt surfaces for the installation of either recessed or raised reflective markers without causing pavement damage and describes a major installation project in Georgia. Project specifications called for grinding concrete as well as asphalt pavement to an exact width, depth and length in order to install recess reflective markers that are 4 sq. inches and 3/4 inches deep. This requires making a tapered slot that is 4.25 inches wide, and, at its midpoint, 7/8 inches deep and 3/4 inches long. The details are briefly described of the equipment that was developed to accomplish the installation. This includes a 65 hp powered plunge saw, and a depth guide wheel to be positioned at the front of the saw machine. Other details of the installation are briefly summarized.
