E.N.I. PROTESTS MEDITERRANEAN SUBMARINE GAS LINE
E.N.I. considers the line economically unsound and technically hazardous for transporting Algerian natural gas to Sicily, where E.N.I. plans to put up a plant to regasify tanker shipments of LNG. G. Verzotto, president of the Sicilian-controlled Ente Minerario Siciliano (EMS) believes that the pipeline is both possible and practical. Bechtel Corp. has been engaged by SONEMS (a joint interest of EMS and SONATRACH, Algeria's state-owned oil company) to make a feasibility study of the submarine pipeline, the results of which will be reported in June 1970.
