AN ANALYSIS OF DOT REQUIREMENTS FOR CORROSION CONTROL
A survey of corrosion aspects of federal pipeline requirements under the Pipeline Safety Act as set by the U.S. Department of Transportation covers general requirements; coating and cathodic protection of new pipelines; difficulties of getting permission to install new pipelines without coating and cathodic protection; application of cathodic protection to existing coated transmission lines; corrosion surveys and electrical isolation of bare transmission lines; corrosion surveys and electrical isolation of bare and coated distribution lines; requirements for record keeping and monitoring; and the need for judgment in selecting among five applicable criteria setting the required level of cathodic protection.
