LOAD INDEPENDENT DC CURRENT THREE-PHASE DRIVE FOR SHORT DISTANCE AND LONG DISTANCE TRAFFIC

DAS STROMGEFUEHRTE DREHSTROMANTRIEBSSYSTEM FUER NAH- UND FERNVERKEHR

The current source converter ac motor drive is the logical development of the dc machine drive technology. The mechanical commutator of the dc machine is replaced by an electronic commutator, the so-called phase sequence inverter. The asynchronous machine is utilized as a drive machine. Control and regulation are carried out in such a way that the combination asynchronous machine and phase sequence inverter has the same behavior as a series connected dc machine. The converter-rectifier or chopper are used as line converter. The system has been tested and proven its serviceability in underground multiple units in Berlin as well as in the locomotive 182001 of the West German Railroad System.
