EVALUATION OF A CAR-POOLING PROJECT

UTVAERDERING AV ETT SAMAAKNINGSPROJEKT

A project on car-pooling was set up during 1979/1981. Three groups participated and commuted between their homes and places of work. This study summarizes the subjective opinions of the participants. They were interviewed on the telephone, in groups, and by means of a written questionnaire. In each case, family economy seemed to be the most decisive attribute. The regularity and time gains were also important attributes. Company with the other pool members meant less. In two of the groups the members learnt to appreciate the regular time schedule. The safety aspect was mentioned only in the group discussions. Among the participants it seemed as if family economy was more salient the more private the context was, and one probably has to assume that family economy is the prime motive for active participation in car pools.
