A LIVABLE RESIDENTIAL ENVIRONMENT BY ROAD CATEGORIZING
NAAR EEN LEEFBARE WOONOMGEVING DOOR CATEGORISERING VAN DE WEGEN
Roads should be classified into groups to improve the quality of performance and to rationalize design and administration. A certain uniformity of the image of the road which is recognized by the road user who may react to this by a comparable uniformity in behaviour will improve road safety. Connector roads, feeder roads, access roads and residential streets show in this order a decreasing traffic function and an increasing environmental standard. A table is given with the various standards per characteristic road feature. Some suggestions are given on (re)designing roads. (Author/TRRL)
