CRITERIA FOR ASSESSING REHABILITATION AND RECONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES IN IVORY COAST

A brief review of the pavement survey unit operating in Ivory Coast is given. The various criteria generally used for assessing pavement condition and for defining rehabilitation techniques are described, together with the critical or threshold values normally taken into account and concerning: deflection, roughness, rut depth and cracking. The main findings resulting from axle-load campaigns carried out over the paved network are briefly discussed and the magnitude of overloading is emphasized. The most aggressive types of vehicles or goods carried and which should be the concern of an axle load control strategy, are described. The paper finally outlines the various types of materials generally used for strengthening operations in the country, drawing the attention upon two basic documents which have been elaborated by the Research Department of the National Public Laboratory, namely: Manual for the Structural Design of Overlays, and An Illustrated Guide for Routine Maintenance Purposes.
