PROGRESS IN FLAW GROWTH AND FRACTURE TOUGHNESS TESTING

Some 28 papers presented at this Symposium outline the latest achievements in analysis, measurements and methods of fracture mechanics. The coverage includes items on the theory, analysis, and understanding of fracture behavior. The new papers on subcritical crack growth are also of considerable importance, as they add to the understanding of threshold behavior and of the usefulness of crack closure in interpreting stress ratio and overload effects. The use of the fracture mechanics approach to the evaluation of a number of relatively tough materials is given considerable attention in this volume. Specifically, the problems in interpretation of plane-strain fracture toughness test results for tough aluminum alloys and steels are described, and the useful relationships between such data to other fracture related indices are presented. Individual papers are indexed separately.
